With three years of professional experience, our industrial designer shares insights into the creation of a high-end tool trolley for luxury automotive brands and professional workshops. Designed from the perspective of the end user, it offers an operation experience far beyond standard tool carts. Every detail—from collision protection and soft-close drawer slides to heavy-duty load capacity—was developed to enhance precision, safety, and durability in technicians’ daily workflows.
Challenge
In high-end automotive service environments, technicians work around valuable vehicles and sensitive equipment, where even minor impacts can cause costly damage. Standard tool trolleys often lack adequate impact resistance, generate noise during operation, and offer limited load capacity, making them less suitable for premium service centers. Technicians also need smarter workspace organization, including power management for electric tools, safe storage for bottles and cans, and surfaces that can withstand heavy use. Existing designs rarely address these specific needs, resulting in inefficiencies and compromised user experience.
Solution
The high-end tool trolley was developed with advanced features to address these challenges. Its collision protection system includes corner guards protruding 4.5 cm and angled bottle racks to prevent accidental impacts. Soft-close drawer and door mechanisms ensure quiet, smooth operation, while the heavy-duty load capacity supports 60 kg per drawer and 120 kg on the stainless steel top surface. For European markets, the premium OSM model offers 90–100 kg load capacity per drawer, enhancing international competitiveness.
The design includes an asymmetrical side tray tailored for real workshop usage, allowing technicians to keep tools within easy reach. European-standard side perforations enable flexible socket strip installation for convenient power management, essential for modern electric tools. Large rubber wheels provide silent mobility, ensuring a noise-free and efficient work environment. Every element—down to the smallest detail—was engineered to enhance ergonomics, usability, and workflow efficiency in high-end automotive repair facilities.
